PEER-TO-PEER MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

One of the top requests from our JTF Kids has been the establishment of a peer-to-peer mentorship program. This program aims to address the feelings of isolation many of our JTF Kids experience, as they are often the only child in their school, community, and beyond with a limb difference. By creating meaningful connections, we hope to foster a sense of belonging and support.

In this program, each JTF Kid is matched with an older mentor based on a variety of carefully considered factors, including the type of amputation, geographical location, and shared interests. This personalized matching process ensures that both mentors and mentees can relate to each other’s experiences and challenges, making the mentorship relationship more impactful and supportive

LET'S MEET UP!

Mentorship sessions are primarily conducted virtually, leveraging technology to bridge the distance between mentors and mentees. These virtual meetings provide flexibility and convenience, allowing participants to connect regularly regardless of their physical locations. During these sessions, mentors and mentees engage in open discussions, share personal experiences, and offer advice and encouragement. Topics of discussion can range from coping strategies and dealing with social situations to pursuing hobbies and setting personal goals.

In addition to virtual interactions, many of our mentors and mentees have opportunities to meet in person at JTF events. These face-to-face encounters are incredibly valuable, as they strengthen the bonds formed during virtual sessions and allow participants to engage in shared activities and experiences. JTF events, such as workshops, camps, and social gatherings, provide a supportive environment where mentors and mentees can connect, learn, and grow together.

WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER!

The peer-to-peer mentorship program is designed to create a supportive network for JTF Kids, helping them navigate the unique challenges of living with a limb difference. Through the guidance and friendship of their mentors, mentees gain valuable insights, build confidence, and develop a stronger sense of identity and community. Mentors, in turn, have the rewarding experience of making a positive impact on a younger peer’s life, while also reinforcing their own sense of purpose and leadership.

Overall, this program exemplifies our commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive community for all JTF Kids. By facilitating these meaningful connections, we aim to empower our young members to thrive, both personally and socially, and to know that they are not alone in their journey. The mentorship program not only enhances the well-being of individual participants but also strengthens the entire JTF community by promoting solidarity, understanding, and mutual support.
